About Me

My name is Melanie Becic and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Idaho (LCPC 8331599) and Oregon (LPC C8208).

I graduated with a Master of Arts in Professional Mental Health Counseling from Lewis & Clark Graduate school of Education and Counseling (Portland, OR) in 2023. As a graduate student I interned at Allies in Change in Portland, OR, facilitating men’s groups and received specialized training in abuse intervention, mens issues, and anger management. Prior to becoming a therapist I was a college athlete. Post college I spent 6 years working with trial lawyers at a company that publishes books on trial strategy for some of the top trial lawyers and consultants in the country. My past experience makes me especially able to connect with and understand individuals in high demand careers. I am also skilled at teaching people how to communicate effectively in a variety of contexts both personal and professional.

My approach is warm, straightforward, collaborative, and practical. I use an integrative approach which means that I pull from multiple therapeutic modalities depending on your needs and what resonates with you. I merge depth based practices that address unconscious patterns and past experiences with behavioral interventions addressing current presenting difficulties so that we can address both the root of the problem and how we can show up more effectively right now. I help my clients to recognize and effectively understand their emotions, increase their ability to tolerate discomfort, communicate effectively with others, feel more in control of themselves and their lives, improve their personal and professional relationships, and feel more connected to themselves.

I have found that clients who I have the most success with are open to discomfort and self-reflection. They take therapy out of the room and into their lives to apply what we have discussed in session and they are committed to their personal growth.

The therapeutic approach I take with clients is collaborative and varies based on what will realistically work for you in your life. I work with clients starting from a baseline of the relationship between us. Forming a therapeutic alliance and showing up with unconditional positive regard for you so that you are able to show up authentically. Because of the relationship I have with my clients I feel comfortable challenging and being direct with them.

I use an integrative, or constructivist, approach to therapy, meaning that I utilize multiple modalities depending on you and your unique needs. I pull from the following therapeutic modalities: Emotion Focused Attachment Theory, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, The Gottman Method, The Allies’ Model, interpersonal/relational therapy, mindfulness/meditation, and psychodynamic. I use interventions from these orientations to deepen our work together and address the challenges that you come in with. I bring in psychoeducation with every client so that you understand what we are doing and why we are doing it.
